Biblical Fasts

Christian family,

Use the information below to begin your journey through fasting.

As you fast, remember these words found in the Book of Isaiah:

Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.

  • Consider a TOTAL FAST (liquids only) from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday, then convert to following a DANIEL FAST until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Use your meal times to pray and read God’s word.
  • Set aside the money you would have spent for food and combine it with the food money saved by others so that at the end of this period of revival you might together bless a person or family in need.
  • During the period of fasting, consider reducing your use of television, telephone, and computer, using these devices only for “necessities.”
  • When fasting, fast for either a single, specified purpose or for multiple purposes. Write down, beforehand, the specifics of what you are fasting for — and lay those purposes before the Lord in prayer.
